The former Church of the Redeemer on North Market Street in Charleston has been a bar for awhile now: the Mad River Bar & Grill called it home for a long time. But now, the newly-renovated space plays host to 5Church Charleston restaurant, and the church has fully embraced a look of pure gothic chic. C0-owners Alejandro Torio and Patrick Whalen have created a space that echoes their Charlotte restaurant of the same name. Just like that location, 5Church Charleston features large banquettes, plenty of pop art, and even Sun Tzu's The Art of War painted on the ceiling. But the Charleston location also features an eerie, metallic dead tree in a corner and angel wings hanging above the bar. The bar itself is huge, lending a certain club feel to the location, likely a result of Torio's past as a nightclub promoter. The restaurant's opening night vibe featured a playlist with plenty of dance beats. Take a look at the article below to see some pictures of this brand new, unique Charleston hangout.
