Wow, congratulations are in order because this year is the centennial for the Port of Palm Beach! And (of course) a huge gala is planned for October 10th to mark the huge milestone. It will reportedly have a very cool, vibey 1920s Great Gatsy theme in honor of the first steamer that pulled in during that period. This Palm Beach Post piece reveals some very interesting facts about the port. For example, it spans 162 acres and is the fourth busiest container port in Florida. Two million tons of cargo totaling more than $5.2 billion passes through. It's also apparently the only area port with railway employees since it links to the Florida East Coast Railway Co. More can be read about the port's complex and diverse history, including the devastating impact the country's embargo on Cuba had on its business in the early 1960s.
