Looking for a great cultural event in Charleston this month? Check out local artist Sally King Benedict's latest exhibition, "Return." Benedict's abstract paintings offer a great sense of place, and her newest works honor her beginnings in Charleston's own Redux Contemporary Arts Center. The theme of "Returning" was inspired by her recently-completed project for The Spectator, downtown Charleston's new luxury hotel. In completing that work, Benedict rediscovered shapes and colors she had not explored since her early days at Redux. "Returning" is all about revisiting elements and techniques from her past and embracing the energy of Charleston. Charleston has also provided a backdrop for Benedict's work outside of her paintings. She recently worked with another native Charlestonian company, Marysia Swim, on their Resort '16 line, and on a small line of letterpress cards for the Charleston boutique stationary shop Mac and Murphy. Even with her lofty status in the art world, Sally King Benedict continues to exemplify the best of the local Charleston arts scene.
