This Saturday, 100 budding Mozarts will play pieces at the Yamaha Clavinova Keyboard Festival at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. Since Saturday is Halloween, the young performers will be dressed in their spooky best while they play.

The repertoire will include classics from Liszt and Bach as well as newer selections like the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean.

This performance will be unlike the dull recitals you may remember from your youth because all the performers will play their pieces on Yamaha Clavinova digital pianos. These keyboards have over 1,000 instrument tones, and the kids have all had an opportunity to figure out which tones they will use at the concert.

Clavinovas are expensive, and not all of the kids who are playing on Saturday would normally have the opportunity to practice on them. Fortunately, the Kretzler Piano Music Foundation donated the money that made this Clavinova performance happen. Music instruction is incredibly important for kids’ development, and Kretzler is doing a great thing by encouraging Palm Beach kids to play piano. Maybe the next Haydn will come from South Florida!
