gb-color-21-flPalm Beach County has proved to be fertile ground for inventors recently. Area residents have been receiving patents for inventions inspired by the outdoor activities that make South Florida such a great place to live. Local diver Stephen Schweighardt just received intellectual property protection for an inflatable dive tank holder that protects boat decks from runaway tanks. Jeffrey Charles Fennell of Southwest Ranches patented a motorized panel that shelters people in a golf cart from the elements in they’re caught out in a storm.

Another outdoorsy invention patented by a local resident recently won’t be too useful in balmy Palm Beach, but is super cool just the same. Terrence Kaiserman and Keith Margolin are the proud inventors of a treated fabric that can conduct electricity and heat and could potentially be used to create electrically-warmed winter clothes.

The recent flurry of inventions coming out of Palm Beach and South Florida shows that something in the region’s sun and sand has been getting inventors’ creative juices flowing. Let’s hope there are more innovations to come!
