Daniel Island Communities

Often described as a modern Mayberry, Daniel Island is a suburban utopia with a true “island life” mentality. Flanked by the Wando and East Cooper Rivers, Daniel Island is comprised of 4,000 acres of Lowcountry terrain and 23 miles of pristine coastline. The popular community boasts a private, members-only country club with two championship golf courses, lighted tennis courts, well-appointed locker rooms, dining options, and resort-style swimming pool. All residents are privy to any of three community swimming pools, playgrounds, recreation fields, green spaces, and nature trails. A bicycle and golf-cart friendly neighborhood, Daniel Island residents embrace an active lifestyle that is reminiscent of their own childhood. For example, the majority of children bike to school, sports practices, and parks or eateries to hang out with friends.

Anchored by Volvo Stadium, downtown Daniel Island features numerous hip restaurants such as Sermet’s, Dockery’s, Orlando’s, Vespa, Abi Baba, and Daniel Island Grille. Neighbors enjoy meeting for pizza on the outdoor patios, watching football games at the cozy pubs, and sipping wine at one of the two wine bars: Sour Grapes and Bin 526. On Saturday mornings, families often bike to Blondies Bagel Shop, Honeycomb Cafe, or Starbucks for breakfast or mid-morning snack. Moreover, the Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association host numerous annual and seasonal events such as Fourth of July fireworks and celebration, campout under the stars, oyster roasts, park day, and holiday bazaars.

From a residential angle, the community is divided into two sides: south side and park side. The park side, located in the northern region of the island, surrounds the two golf courses, clubhouse, or Ralston Creek. Residents in this area are required to purchase a minimal social membership to the country club. As the name implies, the south side includes areas south of the Don Holt Bridge including Codners Ferry, Center Park, Smythe Park, Edgefield, Etiwan Park, and Barfield. These family-friendly communities are highly desirable for families due to their close proximity to the school. Daniel Island School is a true community-centered school that serves children from kindergarten through eighth grade. A top ranked school, Daniel Island School fuses Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) into all core subjects. For high school, students are zoned for the brand new Philip Simmons High School, which is located off Clements Ferry Road. As an alternative, Bishop England High School, one of Charleston’s oldest academic institutions, is conveniently located across from Etiwan Park. Other private school options close by include Palmetto Christian Academy, Christ Our King, Crown Academy, and the O’Quinn School.
