gb-color-25-marsh For the fifth year in a row, the city of Charleston has been named a Top City in the US and Canada by Condè Naste Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards. With the magazine changing their criteria by separating "big" and "small" cities, Charleston had to settle for winning in the "small city" category, while New York was chosen as the best big city. Last year, though, it won the overall honor. The magazine touted Charleston's lush gardens, the brightly-painted Georgian houses on Rainbow Row, its carriages, and its cobblestone streets. Calling it "one of the country's most picturesque cities," Condè Nast Traveler also praised its status as a culinary destination where dining reflects English, French, and West African influences. The magazine also mentioned Charleston's thriving theater scene and historic City Market. The awards have been handed out since 1986, with Charleston first appearing on the list at number six in 1993.
