This river runs about 15 miles from Riverbend Park to the Jupiter inlet and out to the Atlantic. No matter how many times you paddle the Loxahatchee, there’s always something new to explore. On your trip, you’re sure to see otters, wild boars, deer, birds of prey, and even alligators.

Paddlers can launch from the beginning of the paddling trail at Riverbend County Park or at the end of the trail at Jonathan Dickinson State Park.

Just north of the Loxahatchee along the Intracoastal waterway is Coral Cove, an excellent destination for paddlers looking to enjoy many activities.

From the Indian River, paddle north past Cato’s bridge to Jupiter Island, and you’ll find pristine beaches, tidal estuaries, and beautiful and diverse wildlife. The shallow areas on Coral Cove Park’s east side are a favorite hangout of manatees.

About a mile north of the Loxahatchee is the County Line Sand Bar, a favorite hangout for boaters and paddlers alike, especially on the weekends.

Jupiter Island Park

Jupiter Island Park to the south of the Loxahatchee on the Intracoastal waterway offers some of the best paddle boarding adventures in Jupiter, including many hidden areas that are only accessible by kayak or paddleboard.

You can launch your SUP from the boat ramp at Burt Reynolds Park, where there are pristine and practically untouched areas for paddlers to enjoy.

One of the coves snakes behind Burt Reynolds Park is Fullerton Island, which provides a varied habitat for birds, wildlife, and fish with no boat traffic. Jupiter Island Park is a must for nature enthusiasts.

Once you’re done exploring, pop into one of the area's famed restaurants, like Schooners or Guanabanas, just east of the park.

Jupiter Beach Park

The perfect launch point for paddlers looking to hit the open ocean, Jupiter Beach Park is only a few hundred feet from the Atlantic. Those looking to stick to the relative calm of the river will find plenty of areas to explore to the south of the park.

Several protected beach areas, a picnic shelter, and miles of narrow and winding mangroves can provide any paddler with an afternoon of adventure.

Nestled in a cove just south of the Loxahatchee, Sawfish Bay Park is an ideal launch point for paddlers looking to enjoy the Jupiter Lighthouse as part of the day’s itinerary.

Adventurers can head north to the river where they’re less than a half-mile from the lighthouse or head south towards Burt Reynolds Park or down Lake Worth Creek.

Before Your Adventure

Before you head out on your paddleboard to enjoy the beauty of Jupiter, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind to ensure your next adventure is as safe and enjoyable as possible.

  • Always wear your SUP leash and PFD to keep you safe if you’re ever separated from your board.
  • Paddle with a partner to ensure your safety and the safety of those you’re sharing the water with.
  • Keep an eye on the wind forecast. Winds above 10 knots make it difficult for inexperienced paddlers to navigate the water.
  • Keeping your head up and back straight will make it easier for you to balance your board as you paddle.
  • If you lose your balance, aim to fall into the water, not onto the board. Falling on your board is an injury risk, and you can also damage your board.
